Hi I'm vivian muñoz

I am Vivian Muñoz, a Chilean doctor, mom of 7 children, wife of a plastic surgeon.

About Me

I’m a Mormon. I was born into one of the first families in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in my lovely country, Chile. Ever since I was a little girl, I was quite the “bookworm”; that is, I was studious and a lover of knowledge, and later of the sciences and of the field of medicine. I went to school at the University of Chile, where I graduated as doctor, and I have spent 27 years in the treatment and prevention of illnesses that have to do with nutrition, such as obesity and diabetes. For some 15 years I worked at more than one television station as a panelist on morning programs, teaching people to nourish themselves better, getting many people to truly take an interest in these topics. What a lovely opportunity to be able to teach about the principles of the Gospel, how to take care of our bodies as temples, just as I learned from my teachers at Church, as well as at the university!!! I married a marvelous man, who was a missionary for the Church in Argentina, and we had 7 lovely children, plus two grandsons, and a little granddaughter who is about to be born in August 2015. I am immensely happy to be a member of the Church. It is a marvel to me to know that Jesus is the Christ, our Savior, and our example to follow… and that families do not have to end when “death do us part” –they can be forever!!! And I know how!!!

Why I am a Mormon

I had the blessing of being born into a family that already had the truth of the Gospel, so that my first steps were guided by a good light. Later on, I spent all my years of schooling at a Catholic religious school, which was the best that there was in the city where I grew up (that is why my parents registered me there), and in becoming acquainted with that religion on the one hand, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the other, I was able to find out for myself, with all certainty in my heart, that the kingdom of God upon the earth, and His authority, and the complete truth, were found in the Church where my parents had taught me. In my own heart, I felt answers to my prayers, and God confirmed to me that this is His truth, and the best place where I ought to be, and to raise my children.

How I live my faith

Each week as a family we get up early on Sundays to go to church, where we renew the covenants that we made on the day we got baptized. It is marvelous to know that in spite of the fact that we don’t always see each other, my children Andrea and Francisco, who are married, do the same thing where they live, and they are involved in the same things as we are, with their children. We are always connected!!! At 5:00 in the morning, Agustin (age 14) and Elizabeth (age 16) are already on their feet, as did their older siblings when they were those ages, to attend their scripture classes (Seminary), at 6:00 in the morning, at our chapel, from Monday to Friday, and from there to school (just like I did at that age, and for four years!!!). You feel joy in your soul when you hear from inspired teachers the eternal truths of God for our lives, and you have so many answers for all the concerns of youth, and those that are eternal. I cannot imagine my life without the Church. The greater part of my happiness as a daughter, sister, wife, and mother, is thanks to what I have learned and experienced while I strive to live the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

vivian muñoz
I believe that we can increase our faith in Christ each time that we do His will. It is so easy!! We do what is right, and we feel joy, or peace, immediately!! What more of an answer could we want? Just as the very Savior Himself taught, “Whoso doeth the will of God shall know whether the doctrine is of God, or whether I speak of myself.” I, Vivian Muñoz, know for myself that the Lord NEVER spoke of Himself!!” He is the Christ, the Son of the living God, our Lord, and our Savior, and each time I do His will and am an upright, faithful woman, I again experience the powerful promise that He makes us: we will know if He truly is who He says he is!!! And I feel again that it is true!!!! Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

vivian muñoz
We women in the Church are fortunate to know that we have a special place in God’s plan, and this place and function is complementary and perfect for being able to attain happiness in a family, and for eternity. We can be wives, companions, counselors to a man who holds the priesthood, and something unique, marvelous, and special, with which we associate ourselves with our Heavenly Father: to be mothers; thus we can give a physical body to spirit children of God, and have the marvelous experience of having them inside our womb, nursing them, raising them, and teaching them in this life so that they can be self-reliant, happy beings. What a great joy!!! I am happy to be a woman and mother. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

vivian muñoz
As a doctor specialized in nutrition and diabetes, I believe that it is my duty to testify, from my heart, and from my mind, that the Word of Wisdom is a commandment that was given by God to Joseph Smith, the prophet of the Restoration. Many will say, “Those are good bits of advice for a healthy life,” but I say, “No! It’s more than that: it is pure revelation from the heavens!! It is pure knowledge from God, during a time (19th Century) when man’s knowledge was so limited that no one could ever have imagined –for example– that eating an excess of animal meat instead of vegetable proteins (such as, for example, legumes), and the use of tobacco, could lead –among other causes– to cause 2/3 of the chronic pathologies and even death throughout the world!!! Such as the cardiovascular diseases and cancer!!! And just like this one, in my performance as a doctor for 27 years, I can see the divinity of this commandment received through the Prophet Joseph Smith, and see the lives change of those people who come to ask for medical advice, and give them help based on the integrated knowledge that I have obtained; I feel joy each time a patient, upon improving his lifestyle, turns around his obesity, diabetes, or dyslipidemia, becomes a person full of life, healthy and happy.
