Hi I'm Ryan

I'm an Alzheimer's disease researcher. I'm passionate about the truth. I'm a father and a husband. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am driven to discover the truth. Religion and science appear to occupy different ends of the spectrum of human belief in our world, for me they merge as one dominating truth. I am passionate about finding the truth in all things, and welcome the challenge of apparent inconsistencies. Being both a scientist and a deep believer in God is at the heart of who I am. I am also a father of two wonderful children and a husband to a beautiful and devoted wife. They share in my passion for work and play. I am also fortunate to have pursued a career that is founded on a cause to relieve human suffering. Alzheimer’s disease is quickly becoming one of the greatest health challenges in the world, with tens of millions of people suffering from this devastating disease. Several of our own family members have been plagued with Alzheimer’s disease, and I plan to continue to work endlessly to find treatments for this, and other neurological diseases. We also seek after some thrills! My family and I enjoy extreme sports, including skiing, boating, soccer, skateboarding, and biking. I love spending time on a river with my fly rod. We love the mountains. We also like tennis and quiet walks with our dog. We enjoy life, both work and play!

Why I am a Mormon

During my college years I began to study human genetics and molecular biology. I learned about the scientific principles of evolution and sought to have a better understanding of how religion and science can coexist. I realized then, and continue to understand now that my belief in God and my understanding of scientific principles can be unified, if based on truth. I have found the truth in Mormonism. I know there is a God and that he both loves us and has a plan for each of us. This knowledge has come to me because I have chosen to be a Mormon, and it gives meaning to my life. Science is designed to answer HOW things are, yet fails when it comes to explaining WHY. Being a Mormon helps answer WHY in my life.

How I live my faith

Believing in Jesus Christ is believing we can all change for the better. Many people wrongly equate religion with some false sense of perfection. I see my belief in Jesus Christ as a desire to be a better person. Most people who know me know I am a Mormon and that regardless of what they do or do not believe, I care for them. I also see my pursuit to relieve human suffering by studying human disease as a major part of my faith. My faith provides meaning and passion behind multiple pursuits in my life.
