Hi I'm Steve
I'm a Mormon. My life is a little crazy and awesome, and I love being a Christian.
I'm a systems administrator by day, and a university student by night. I love working with people and am pursuing a degree in behavioral sciences so that I can become a licensed counselor for adolescents. I enjoy spending my free time in giving back to the community. I do one-on-one mentoring for a teenager through a national organization that matches adults with at-risk youth. In addition to attending and serving in the LDS church, I help out at a local church of another faith with their youth group. I feel strongly the need to serve our neighbors, both in the church and in the community -- people who are in our same vicinity, and I have seen the blessings that come from clothing the naked and feeding the hungry both for the givers and the receivers.
I've grown up as a Mormon all my life, but I didn't really grasp the importance of the faith until I was a teenager and started both reading the Book of Mormon for myself, and started living the principles of the restored gospel the best that I could. It was as I tried the word of God that I came to realize that His promises are sure and true. I'd like to say that I have a testimony of the Book of Mormon not only because I have prayed about it, but because as I live the commandments that are written in it, my life has been blessed abundantly both temporally and spiritually. I've seen many times in my own life that as I try to act as Jesus would, that I find peace for myself and happiness in helping others.
Living a faith is a really difficult thing, because it interweaves morality with personal decisions. God's will influences both my attitude and my actions in life. It helps me to know that as I try to do the right thing, God is pleased with my attempts and blesses me as I try to move forward. At the same time, the revealed doctrines of the Church allow me to understand that we have both chosen and been sent to come to earth to experience life in all its mortal realm of influence. I love talking to God, just me sincerely telling him about my life. I know that he cares strongly for me and is deeply concerned about my spiritual progress, on a personal level. I know that he is not just the god of religion, but the god of the universe, and with that I can go to him about all kinds of problems, from emotional and spiritual to the practical as well. I know that he hears me and answers me in his own ways. I know he's there, and he is watching out for us. I believe that the best way I can be a benefit to others is by living righteously.
