Hi I'm Mark Gustafson

I go to school. I play soccer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a recent high school graduate. I'm currently attending a college with the hope of majoring in exercise physiology. After school I hope to pursue a career in physical therapy. Ideally I would eventually be able to work with a sports team of some kind. I'm a huge sports fan. Having family in Pittsburgh I'm a pretty big Steelers fan. That sport's allegiance is only trumped by my support of the Portland Trailblazers. Basketball is a great sport and having a local team to support is awesome. In my off time I enjoy doing just about anything. From just hanging out at a friends house to cliff jumping, I love life. My favorite activity is soccer. I've played since I was four and there's nothing like it. If there's nothing to do on a nice day I'm probably out on the soccer field.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a background of being agnostic. I didn't know much about religion but I thought religion was ridiculous. I didn't understand anything about God or Jesus. I mean, I had never seen them. This non belief wasn't because it wasn't true but rather because I lacked a proper understanding of faith and how through faith truth can be exposed through the power of the holy ghost. I began by asking my friends that were members of the church questions about there religion, simply out of curiosity. I didn't necessarily believe the things they would say but i certainly found their answers interesting and I respected their beliefs. It was during this time that my agnosticism was growing. I was all but sure that religion was something made up by man. I finally decided that I needed to attend church to find out for sure. Within a week of that thought crossing my mind I was invited to church by my friend. This was some coincidence. At first I didn't think much of it but was grateful that I had the chance to find out the truths of religion in general. A little nervous, I went to church with my friend. I had been inside this building before to play basketball but I had never felt such a strong feeling before. As I listened to the speakers and teachers throughout the day this feeling was still present. I acted upon this feeling and started attending church regularly. I was gaining a better perspective on what I should do with my life and this comforting feeling would just not go away. After a few months of attending church I finally agreed to meet with the missionaries. By then I had a pretty strong feeling of truthfulness in regards to this church. My friends family kindly welcomed me into their house to receive these lessons and after the first one I felt the spirit as strong as ever. After that, I was convinced; I knew that this was the true Church of Jesus Christ. I was baptized a few weeks later. I know Jesus Christ is my redeemer and that the Lord led me to this church.

How I live my faith

I know for certain the truthfulness of this Gospel and because of that I try to live my life according to its teachings. I try to help others whenever I can. Even when I am busy there is always time to display an act of kindness towards an individual. It can be as small as opening a door for another person or as big as organizing a way for someone to be fed during a time of need. I try to live as an example being kind living faithfully by the precepts of my faith. It is because of my faith in Jesus Christ that I take it upon myself to be a better person and try to let His teachings influence me. I love the way this Church has impacted my life. It is because of this that I try to share it whenever I can. By no means do I want to push my religion on anyone but I certainly want to help provide others with the same chance to investigate the truth that I did. It is because of this that I frequently help teach those that are interested in the Church with the missionaries. I am so thankful for the impact this gospel has had on my life. I only hope that others can experience this same joy and comfort that I find from my knowledge that Jesus Christ is my savior and that only through Him can I be perfected and return to my Father in Heaven.
