Hi I'm Kahikina

I am a fire Captain, a fisherman, a bow hunter, a Hawaiian, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My parents are from Hawaii, my father served in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Arizona, my mother gave birth to me. We eventually moved home to Hawaii when I was 2 years old. My parents were converted to the Church before we returned home. Growing up in Hawaii, I fell in love with the ocean and the beauty of our undeveloped land. When I graduated from high school, I moved to the island of Molokai and married the most beautiful Hawaiian princess. She is now a queen. We have raised four wonderful children, 3 boys and 1 girl. 3 of our older sons have served LDS missions and our youngest daughter is in college at BYU Hawaii. We are very proud of our children and we love them very much. I am a fire Captain with the Maui County Fire Department. I love to bow hunt for axis deer and fish by throwing net and free diving.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was somewhat born into the church and baptized at the age of 8 years old. I had to do a lot of soul searching to identify who I was and what I really believed. I needed to know if this really was the only true church on the earth. I could identify by the Holy Ghost testifying to me while at a younger age that this church was true. However, while growing up and making many mistakes in life, I lacked the faith that would have me question some of my own beliefs, hence my identity crisis. Eventually I began to pray consistently to Heavenly Father and studied the scriptures. Having that open communication with my Heavenly Father helped me to understand more clearly my purpose in life. I have struggled through many difficult trials in my life. Without the gospel in my life, I would be in prison or dead in a ditch. I am able to identify the many blessings Heavenly Father has given me and my family. I understand how much Heavenly Father loves us and how much he wants to bless us if we exercise our faith in him by praying to him and keeping his commandments. I know he wants us to be happy and to have eternal families both in this life and the next. Through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to laws and ordinances of the gospel.

How I live my faith

In my community I have been blessed to assist in coaching the high school wrestling team for a few years. Also, participating as a leader in the scouting program. I am currently serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a Bishop. This is the best calling to serve in the church I ever had. There is no paid clergy in the church. Service is purely out of faith and love. My full time job as a firefighter is what supports my family. The greatest blessing and joy for me is to be able to help and see individuals and families have a mighty change of heart and to see their lives improve dramatically. True over whelming happiness is the result. So much that even death cannot rob happiness.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Throughout the scriptures, never has any of the Lords disciples and prophets served the members of the church through any form of payment. Serving in the church is our testimony that Christ is the head of the this church and service is our true religion as Christ has exemplified. Show more Show less
