Hi I'm Alyssa

I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm from Gilbert, Arizona and just had the opportunity of serving the Lord in the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh mission! I am a huge fan of music & performing, whether singing, playing the violin, or just jamming out to it in the car, I love the joy music brings and how it can really uplift us. I come from a big family. I'm the middle of seven kids, and I love my family, though we are crazy! I'm also a big fan of my niece & nephews. Family just makes life so beautiful and I have come to love mine so much more deeply since being away from them this past year.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family who were members of this Church, and when I was 8 I made the covenant of baptism. I love learning about my ancestors who were faithful to the Gospel, even when it was very difficult to do so. I feel a great love for them as I do Family History & recognize what they did for me (before they even knew me). It's the simple, primary basics of this Gospel that have proved to mean the most to me over the years. My parents taught me how to pray and instilled in me the sweet truth that I really am a daughter of God. I knew this as a child, and I learned at a young age the peace and answers from God that comes from praying, studying the scriptures, and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I remember feeling that love from my Heavenly Father when I was younger, and it is so amazing to me how He continues to show ways He loves me.

How I live my faith

Through different life experiences with family and close friends, I've learned how important it is to love people and do our best to follow Christ's example of kindness & love. Caring for each other is the greatest way to show God we love Him. Forgiving others and ourselves is also so important and the Gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me do that and appreciate the people in my life more. One of my favorite hymns is "Lord, I would follow Thee", and it kind of sums up how we live our faith. I love the words: 'Savior, may I learn to love thee, walk the path that thou hast shown, pause to help and lift another, Savior, may I learn to love thee, Lord, I would follow Thee'. I know none of us are perfect, but I really do think that love is at the heart of discipleship. I've also found that as I strive to keep the Commandments and keep that eternal perspective, I am blessed with an immeasurable amount of peace, clarity, and light in my life. I feel happy and strong, and there is no greater feeling than that. Heavenly Father also knew we would need a Savior who would atone for our sins and provide the grace that we need to overcome the effects of sin. I love my Savior and brother Jesus Christ & have felt His love work in my life.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Alyssa
As a missionary, I have had experiences of seeing what draws individuals to our Church, and most often it is the feeling people receive when they pray, attend Church, and learn more about the Savior. We are all unique children of God, and our faith in Him unites us as members of His church. I love hearing the experiences people have as they become immersed in this Gospel and build friendships with members of our Church. Simply put, I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints continues to grow and move forward because it is founded upon true principles and the Lord himself is guiding and directing the work in our day! It is beautiful to see and I am thankful to be a part of it. Show more Show less
