Hi I'm Colby

I'm a PhD student, soil scientist, small business owner, husband, father of 3 and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am working on a PhD in soil science. I am working to improve to improve the way soil maps are made and used. My research requires that I spend long hours camping in hot, dry and dusty places and I love it. I also enjoy fly fishing, fly tying and all things related. I am also a dad to my kids. Life is busy.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ not only helps me understand my relationship with God, but also how to live my life so that I can be successful and happy. There are a lot of things that I can fill my time with and the gospel and church help me to prioritize all of my responsibilities to that I don't make the wrong choices of how to spend my time. Let's face it, there are a million things that are good to do (especially while in school) and knowing what will make you the happiest in the long run is hard to know. The gospel helps me make the right choices in spiritual as well as physical decisions.

How I live my faith

I'm the secretary of the young men's organization in our ward. This means that I help organize the young men and their leaders. I also meet with the young men every week and help the young men work towards their eagle scout. I also visit several families once a month. I teach my family the gospel by having daily prayer and reading from the scriptures with them. I also spend some time in personal daily scripture study.
