Hi I'm Hillary Vos

I'm a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in Perth. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My parents are both converts to the church. I was raised in a loving home with Mum, Dad and three siblings. The usual childhood games of teacher and student became a reality as my love of children and teaching led me to study Primary Teaching at Auckland University. At the age of 20 I felt too young to enter the education system boots and all so decided to go on a different adventure instead. I followed in the footsteps of my brothers and prepared myself to serve as a full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My brothers, one older & one younger, had the opportunity to serve in Fiji and Canada respectively. So in order to go I needed money. A fortunate phone call one day led to a job at Westpac Institutional Bank where I was able to work for a year and save up enough to come out. Before coming on my mission I enjoyed spending time with friends and 'hanging out' - like any normal teenager does. I LOVE dancing and music. I love swimming, especially in lakes and rivers. I have a great love of touch rugby even though I'm an amateur. My family and my friends are everything to me.

Why I am a Mormon

My testimony is an accumulation of many small, powerful and personal experiences where the love of our Heavenly Father has been etched on my heart. Most of the time these experiences have come when I've reached a cross-road in my life. The danger of cross-roads is the temptation to stop; to plonk myself down and refuse to go forward because 'it's just too hard', 'I don't know what to do', or 'it's too scary'. But the growth I came here to earth to experience comes only as I move forward. Even if I choose the 'wrong' path, I learn from that. My mother has instilled in me the knowledge that I have the power and ability to choose. I think a lot of people forget that. So that's what I do. I choose. It's not easy. But I have grown to understand that it's through trials and challenges that we progress; that we learn about ourselves and our Savior and Friend Jesus Christ. Each day I strive to follow the example He's set. It's a life-long journey but I take one day at a time.

How I live my faith

My life now revolves around serving others. As a missionary my purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel. This is quite a task! Those who're interested are few and far between. It's worth every slammed door, murmured response, turned back, made-up excuse, empty promise and broken appointment to see the gospel of Jesus Christ change hearts and lift burdens. This job is the most tiring, fun, fulfilling, and challenging one I've had yet. It is the hardest thing I ever loved to do. As a missionary I've never felt so peaceful yet been so ridiculously busy. I've never been so happy yet been rejected and turned away by so many people. I've never been so content and care-free yet had the most important responsibility on my shoulders. I've never seen so many hearts touched. I've never felt closer to my Savior.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Hillary Vos
The Book of Mormon is another witness that Jesus Christ lives, not lived; that prophets speak, not spake; and that our Heavenly Father loves all His children regardless of culture, creed or credit. It has helped me so much in my life. It's a compass for my own personal journey back to my Father in Heaven. I know that if you prayerfully and sincerely read this book you will come to know, just as I have, that it is true. Show more Show less
