Hi I'm Candy

I'm a wife, a mother, a grandmother. I now spend most of my time researching family history. I'm happy and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My father was a member of the church, my mother was not. In my early years, we attended church often. When I was 13 years old my mother read the Book of Mormon for the first time and had an overwhelming desire to be baptized immediately. I was baptized that day too! My personal conversion was slower than my mother's. I wanted to believe and thought I did for quite a few years, but when I look back on my life I don't think I made a real commitment to live the gospel until I was married and wanted to go to the temple to be sealed to my family forever. My husband was a recent convert to the church and together we raised a family with the gospel as the center of our goals. We have 5 wonderful children who now have families of their own. We are not perfect by any means, but we love one another and my family is one of my greatest treasures! I cannot imagine living eternity without my loved ones close to me and as I look at my family tree, I think my grandparents and great-grandparents and aunts and uncles, etc would feel the same. That's why I spend my time building my family tree.

Why I am a Mormon

I am active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because it makes me happy. I find joy in keeping the commandments. I read my scriptures daily, because they have given me peace and comfort in hard times and I never know when life's trials will hit me again. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God and I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. I am grateful for them. I have prayed many times to know for myself the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and have felt the sweet assurance of peace and happiness and comfort every time. I have made mistakes and know that repentance and forgiveness are a sweet blessing from my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that Heavenly Father loves me. Raising children has been the sweetest experience of my life, but also the most difficult. I have received many answers to my prayers as I've tried to teach my children. I have learned the value of free agency and love as they have made their individual choices. I have been taught about the love of God, as I love and serve them.

How I live my faith

I say my prayers, read my scriptures, serve my family and look for ways to help others know that Heavenly Father loves all of His children daily. I try not to criticize or complain. I try to be faithful and hopeful and have charity.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

I love the Bible. I first read the New Testament when I was a freshman in high school. I have returned to read it many times and try to memorize my favorite scriptures. My most favorite is John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." I didn't read through the whole Old Testament until I was over 30. It was a challenge and it took me over two years. I can't say that I understand a lot of it besides the well-known stories that we all love. Still, within it's pages are verses that touch my heart and bring me peace. I found a great connection with King David. When he lost his focus on Jehovah, he fell into terrible sin. When he recognized his loss and returned to God, his repentance was sincere and as he accepted the consequences of lost blessings, he continued to serve God with all of his heart. Would I be able to do the same? I find that every time I read my scriptures, they speak to my heart in a new way. I find answers to prayers, I gain hope for my future and I feel closer to my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that they love me. The Bible is one of our greatest blessings from God. I'm a Mormon and I know that the Bible is the word of God and testifies of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
