Hi I'm Eric

I was born to Mormon parents, but I now believe for myself. Yea, I'm a Mormon too.

About Me

I was born to Mormon parents who took me to different parts of the world as my father taught for Mormon Church schools. I graduated High school, served a mission for the church in Puerto Rico, and then married a lovely young lady from Ohio in the US. We settled down there and we had 4 wonderful children of our own. However we felt there was someone missing, so after not being able to have any more naturally, we felt prompted to adopt and we now have our lovely "Mayan Princess" from Guatemala. I have been married for 22 years now to my lovely wife and more in love with her now than ever before. I have always loved to fly airplanes, and although I wanted it as a career, I chose to study Information Technology, and graduated from DeVry University, and started a career in IT. I loved being with my family, watching my kids grow up and being a part of their lives. We just finished the adventure of building a new home ourselves; when I then decided it was time to change careers. Now I am on my way to becomming a professional pilot and loving it. One of Helen Keller's statements seams to fit our life well: "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing".

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up being taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and reading from all the scriptures. I enjoyed listening to all the stories of the prophets of all ages and places. However during a more difficult time in my life I had to know of the truthfulness of the church and so I tested the promise of Moroni in the Book of Mormon. (Moroni 10:3-5) I read the Book or Mormon and prayed to my Heavenly Father to find out for my self if it was true. I needed my own witness; I couldn’t lean on my parents any longer. A quiet voice came to me in my prayer, and told me "You already know, just believe". Since then I have received so many witnesses that it is true that I can not doubt. If the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith was truly a prophet. And the Church of Jesus Christ which he was instrumental in restoring in these latter days is also true. I feel that confirmation everywhere I go now.

How I live my faith

With my kids getting older, I started a career change and now I'm on my way to chasing my lifetime dream career of flying for the Airlines. Live has not always been easy. My wife and I have had to overcome so many challenges that we and others thought were crazy for trying. In every case we chose to look through the eye glasses of faith to see Heavenly Fathers hand helping us through each challenge and giving us tender mercies that helped us to know we were on the right path and that he was there to help when we got stuck. The Church has always been a big part of my life and has helped to keep me grounded. Service in different church organizations has been very uplifting and helped me to grow. It’s nice to go to different parts of the world and find the same teachings being taught, and feel the same spirit as I feel at my own home congregation. As I have lived my life I have found Heavenly Fathers promptings and mercies becoming more and more abundant, each time proving that he is mindful of me and helping me along.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

This first requires wanting to know Him, then here are some things that have worked for me. Using faith, ask Him if He is there, and sit peacefully waiting for an answer. For me it will comes in the form of a warm, inside-out swelling in my chest making me breath deep. It feels good and I want the feeling to linger. Use faith to ask your Heavenly Father for something simple. Then continue in faith looking for His answer and accept it even if it too is simple. Then by continuing in this process over time these simple answers become more and more pronounced, personal and they faithfully prove His existence to you. When enjoying life and the abundant beauty around you, thank Him for the experiance or His creations, then search your feelings for the peaceful communication from Him that you will want to stay. That's him telling you He is there. All of these simple communications can easily be waived off as ordinary feelings of life, because they are. As you go through life, He wants you to know He is there and loves you, so he gives you these moments of grace. Make it a personal experiment, test Him to see if he won't answer you. Because I know He will. I pray for your successful recognition of Him. Show more Show less
