Hi I'm Kari Goodman

I'm a wife, mom of 3, step mom of 3, insurance agent, I love people, movies, books, traveling, the arts, sports and I'm a mormon.

About Me

I was born in Montana while my parents were dairy farming in a little town called Chinook, but the farm was sold so my father enrolled in college and earned his undergraduate degree. My family moved to Kansas for my father's masters work when I was 5. During that time my mom became ill, near unto death which was frightening for a small child of 6, but thankfully she survived and after giving birth to my youngest brother my father accepted a high school teaching position in California so we moved. Except for some college at BYU Provo, Utah, I've lived most of my life in California. I married at 18. Unfortunately I did not last in my first marriage, but was blessed with a wonderful son and daughter. I'm currently in my second marriage and am happy to be a step mom to my husband's 3 children from his first marriage. We had a lovely daughter together which turned us into the Brady Bunch...3 sons, 3 daughter. I've worked in the insurance industry for 27 years and my current position is Account Manager for a commercial insurance book of business. I love to sing and have been involved in musicals in some main rolls along with choirs. I love sports - played basketball, volleyball and softball and now I love to watch Volleyball, Basketball and currently NFL games with my family. Going to the movies, reading great books, singing and dancing with abandon to great music are some of my favorite things, along with bonfires at the beach and traveling.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 6 and my mom was ill, we did not have the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in our life. My mom was not a member and my dad could not find the church in the small town in which we lived. Even though I was young I felt there was something missing in our lives and was quite frightened by my mom's brush with death. When we moved to California and became involved in the church that void was filled with the church and I felt a peace I hadn't felt before. I felt there was protection by being a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As I grew up and learned more and read the Book of Mormon and Bible for myself I felt everything I read was true. I firmly felt Jesus wanted me to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I felt it was His Church. I also felt this Church was set up like the Church He established in the New Testament times with a Prophet and 12 apostles. I believe Jesus Christ directs this Church through His Prophet and 12 Apostles today as well. I love the Lord Jesus Christ and know He is my Savior and atoned for all mankind so they have a chance to regain his presence with the presence of Heavenly Father. The church teaches us we can continue our family relationships beyond death if we obey his commandments and participate in His ordinances under the direction and authority of the Priesthood he bestows on worthy men who are keeping His commandments. This power and authority from Jesus Christ gives me every reason to be a Mormon and to feel this is truth to be lived in this life and beyond.

How I live my faith

I feel the love of Jesus Christ and through His example have learned to be loving and compassionate to people around me. This is how I live my faith. I've learned I don't have a right to judge others as I don't know all that is going on in their lives. Only Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father truly know the heartaches people carry so being generous and kind towards others is how I live my Faith. Attending Church, partaking of the Sacrament to renew my baptismal covenants and trying to repent and be forgiving is how I live my faith. Service to others and serving in my church is how I live my faith. Being grateful for everyday and all that is in it is how I live my faith. I love serving in the choir and youth program. I loved serving in the Primary as a chorister and teacher. Helping at Families Forward and sending care packages to the military and contributing to and packaging humanitarian supplies is how I live my faith. Caring for those who are mourning, sick and elderly, visiting people in hospice and hospital is how I live my faith. Raising children with good morals and values is how I live my faith. Continually studying the word of God and praying for understanding is how I live my faith. Sharing my testimony that Jesus is the Christ, President Thomas S. Monson is his Prophet today, Joseph Smith was Jesus' prophet that restored His church in this dispensation. Testifying Jesus made it possible through his atonement, death and resurrection that we may be forgiven of all our sins if we repent and are baptized by one having authority through the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. Christ's resurrection conquered death so we all live again after death. Happiness comes by living God's commandments and this is how I live my faith.
