Hi I'm Desirae

I grew up in Idaho Falls, ID. I have a passion for helping orphans and the homeless. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I am a soon to be mom. I have my Bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota, Morris, MN and my Masters degree in occupational therapy (OT) the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. I am currently working as an occupational therapist at a local skilled nursing facility. I was married in July of last year and am loving married life. I am excited to be a mother and to be able to share my passion of helping others with my children. I have a dream of helping orphans and was able to start to fulfil that dream by visiting/ volunteering at a few orphanages in South Africa, Zanzibar, and Tanzania and establishing contacts. I enjoy scrap booking, hiking, swimmiing, ice skating, spending time with family, playing with children, playing card/board games, baking, traveling, learning about other cultures, and visiting the homeless and elderly.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church. My family faithfully had daily family prayer, scripture study, & family home evening weekly until I was 14. When my parents got divorced I was the only one who continued going to church. People often asked, "what kept me going?" I realized that through daily prayer & scripture study I had developed a personal relationship with my Heavenly Father and knew that He lived & loved me. I had felt the power of the Book of Mormon and knew it was the word of God because of the peace, comfort, & guidance it provided. I didn't understand the significance of what it meant to KNOW the Book of Mormon was true until I served a mission in the "Bible Belt." I know we each can receive personal revelation. I also know that God is a God of order & is unchanging. I know that God has revealed his will through prophets from the beginning (Amos3:7).I know that Christ atoned for our sins & that he established the organization of His church/gospel by calling 12 apostles & giving them Power/Priesthood (Matt:10:1-2)so He could continue to guide His church through revelation & they could continue to baptize & give the Gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts8:17-18).After Christ and the apostles were killed the priesthood was taken from the earth. As a result many religions formed. I know that there are pieces of the truth in every religion; however, without all the pieces there is confusion. God doesn't want us to be confused. I know that God and Jesus Christ appeared to Jospeh Smith & called him to be an instrument in RESTORING Christs church. I know that Peter, James, & John (original 12 apostles) appeared to Joseph to restore the Priesthood. Joseph was then commanded to call 12 apostles. There has been a prophet and 12 apostles on the earth ever since. The significance of the Book of Mormon is it's the evidence God's given for you to read and pray about to know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that Jesus Christs church has been restored to the earth in these last days.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to apply the things I learn at church and from my personal study to my daily life. For instance a few conferences ago one of the 12 apostles invited us to pray for the opportunity to help someone daily and to be able to recognize those opportunities and have the courage to act on them. The days I remember to do that were the best because I was able to feel my Saviors love and appreciation for me for serving one of my fellow brothers/sisters. "When you are in the service of your fellowman you are only in the service of your God" (Mosiah 3:17 in the Book of Mormon). I also live my faith by diligently and prayerfully visiting three to four sisters to check on their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and to simply be a friend and a listening ear. I like to find opportunities to visit the Elderly who don't have family that visit them and adopt them as my grandma/grandpa. I also like participating in community clean up project and organizations to feed the homeless. I find joy in participating in all of the above things and I believe that to be because I am being an instrument in the Lords hand by showing his love through me.
