Hi I'm Bill

I grew up in Buffalo NY as a Lutheran, converted to our church some 30 plus years ago, best thing I have ever done, I am a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a convert to the church, converting to the church some 30 plus years ago. I'm married have four children who are all married, currently we have ten grandchildren. I retired from an Industrial Drives and Controls Company last year. My hobbies consist of woodworking and restoring old british cars, currently have restored one from ground up and working on completing the another one.

Why I am a Mormon

A co-worker of mine invited my wife and myself out to dinner one night after visiting us on one of his company trips to our factory. At the time we lived in upstate New York, our friend lived in Atlanta, Georgia area. During dinner our friend was drinking orange juice all night, while we had typical cocktails and after dinner drinks. We thought that was rather odd, and asked him why he didn't drink. He said that he was Mormon and lived by the churches health code called the "word of wisdom". After hearing he was LDS, we invited him back to our house, my wife had a zillion questions about the church. She was introduced to various church members but never really pursued it from being raised Catholic. I was raised Lutheran and never questioned religion much but questions that were raised seemed to maked sense. After discussions long into the early hours, our friend wanted to know about setting up appointment with the churches missionaries, we mentioned we were not ready for that yet. So after his return to Atlanta to our surprise, we received a packaged in the mail with church phamplets addressing various topics, a copy of the Book of Mormon for both of us and a book titled " A Marvelous Work and Wonder. My wife read everything from cover to cover, I was not quite as excited but read all the phamplets and parts from the Book of Mormon. After giving ourselfs a month to do this, it all made sense, we called the missionaries to be taught, were baptised one month later. That was 30 plus years ago, it still all makes sense today!

How I live my faith

Over the years have held various positions in our church ranging from primary teacher to counselor in Stake Presidency and currently serving as a Gospel Doctrine Teacher. Serving is an important aspect of our church and no matter where you serve, each postion is very important to help not only our fellow members young and old but also to help ourselfs grow in different areas. Since becoming a member I have been assigned as a home teacher with a companion being assigned to visit various familes at least once a month. This is another important part of our church to make sure all our families are doing ok in various aspects of their lives and to receive some type of message each month whether from our leaders of the church or as directed by the head of the household. I've seen this work in many aspects of not only families that I have been assigned to but also to our own family. I've been fortuante to help out in various service projects that our church has been assigned to ranging in clean-ups from hurricanes, tornatoes, floods that have hit areas in the south over the past number of years. It's been hard work but the time spent has been worth all the time spent to help ease the suffering that folks are going through when these disastors hit.
