Hi I'm Jon

I'm a Mormon in Michigan.

About Me

I am married and have three boys and a little girl. My family is important to me and brings me a lot of happiness. I am a musician. I teach music and play in orchestras and ensembles all over Michigan. I enjoy gardening when the weather warms up here and I really enjoy the outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I have come to know that this church is the Lord Jesus Christ's church upon the earth today. I know that this Church is the Lord's Church by learning about Joseph Smith and his experience when he was called as a prophet. I know that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet because of his translation of the Book of Mormon-Another Testament of Jesus Christ, translated by him through the gift and power of God. By studying the Book of Mormon intently, pondering its message and asking God through prayer if it is true, I have had many assurances through the Holy Spirit that the book is God's word revealed to prophets, and that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet in our day. I also know that we have a living prophet today, Thomas S. Monson. Through Joseph Smith, the Lord Jesus Christ restored the priesthood-- the power of God given to man to act in his name-- to the earth. The Lord also restored the fullness of His gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith. This means that all of the necessary ordinances, such as baptism by immersion and the Gift of the Holy Ghost, are available for us today and make it possible for us to return to Heavenly Father's presence after this life. One of the most significant parts of the Church to me are the Temples. The Temples have ordinances that we can take part in that "seal" or bind us to our families, not only for this life but for eternity. Through the Temples, we can also perform ordinances such as baptism for our deceased ancestors who did not have the opportunity to receive the fullness of the gospel and all of its ordinances in this life. I know that those who have died on earth continue to live as spirit personages in a spirit world and have every opportunity to accept the gospel if they were not able to in this life. I know that the Lord loves all of us and desires for each of us to learn the Lord Jesus Christ's gospel, and receive the ordinances that will allow us to return to Him with our Families. I am a "Mormon" or a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because of the many, many blessings I have received as I have tried to take advantage of everything the Church has to offer me and my family. I know this is the Lord's Church. I Love my Savior and am grateful for his atoning sacrifice for me and all of mankind.

How I live my faith

The Church offers many opportunities to provide meaningful service to others. One of my favorite programs of the Church is called "Home Teaching." Home Teaching is an assignment given to male members of the Church--female members participate in a similar program called "Visiting Teaching." Here's how Home Teaching works. I have a home teaching companion and we are assigned several families to visit each month. We go to each family's house and visit with them. We deliver a gospel message. We find out if there is anything they stand in need of. If there is anything they need help doing, we do what we can to help. If we cannot help, then we draw upon the support of other church members to help. I have enjoyed this opportunity, as well as the blessing of having home teachers who come into my home regularly to teach my family the gospel and serve us however they can.
