Hi I'm Joe

I have three wonderful boys and a beautiful wife. I am an educator. I love being a Mormon!

About Me

I love being a father. I have three boys that bring me life and joy every day. Any time I am not working or going to school I love to play with them, dance, sing, laugh, and simply spend time together. Heather, my wife, and I have been married for almost nine years. They have been the greatest years of my life. Heather is the greatest! My family means everything to me. I am an educator. I taught 2nd grade for five years, which I loved. Where I am from, it is uncommon to have a male teacher in the lower grades. My favorite parts of teaching were to read picture books to my students with all kinds of voices and expression; playing soccer with my students on a weekly basis; and just enjoying the awe and wonder of learning with children. Last year, I worked as an assistant principal, which I enjoyed. Now, I work with a nearby university to mentor and supervise the intern teachers and student teachers from elementary education. I have been going to school practically my entire life. After I graduated with my elementary education degree, I decided to get my master's degree in educational leadership. Things worked out so well that I decided to continue on and pursue my PhD. Right now, I am working on my dissertation that is on Professional Learning Communities in schools. I love to play sports (especially soccer), games, and to travel. I am lucky to have traveled to South Africa, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and all over Europe. I love life and have been blessed so much!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ and want to follow Him. One of the greatest blessings of being a Mormon is that I can be with my family forever, even after we die. You see, we are married in the temple, which is God's house. There, I made covenants and promises with Heather and with Heavenly Father. When we keep those covenants, Heavenly Father promises to bless us with love and joy in this life and that we can live with Him, Jesus Christ, our families, and all we love forever. How incredible! Who wouldn't want that? That is the greatest joy of my life, and my greatest hope! When I was eleven or twelve years old I read the Book of Mormon, which is much like the Bible, but is about the people that lived in America, and how Jesus Christ visited and blessed them. After finishing the Book of Mormon for the first time, I decided to ask Heavenly Father if it was true. I said a simple prayer and I received one of the most powerful prayers I have ever experienced. It felt as if my whole body was filled with light. I felt a rush of power surge through my body, which made the hairs all over my body stand on end. It was the clearest answer I could have asked for. I have read the Book of Mormon and the Bible many times since and I have continued to feel the power of the Holy Ghost testify that they truly are the words of Jesus Christ, and will lead us back to Heavenly Father. I am also grateful that we have prophets and apostles again in our day. As I have listened to their words and studied them, I have felt the Holy Ghost witness that they are truly called of God. I have found when I follow their counsel, and the teachings of Jesus Christ I am the happiest. I had the opportunity to serve as a missionary in Switzerland, much like Paul and other missionaries in the Bible. I found that sharing my testimony of Jesus Christ and helping other people come unto Him brings pure joy into my life and the lives of those that follow Him. I love to be a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I live my faith each and every day. Each morning, I pray and ask Heavenly Father to be with me and to bless me. I thank Him for His love and kindness and the incredible blessings He gives me. I ask for His help to be the best, most Christlike father, husband, and person I can be. I ask Him to bless me with the pure love of Christ and with the Holy Ghost. Each day, Heavenly Father answers those prayers in small and simple ways that fill my daily life with joy. I live my faith by studying His words. I read the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and the words of the living prophets every day. They fill my life with light, truth, and guidance. They help me know what I need to do and how to do it. They bring the Holy Ghost into my life and help me to truly be happy. When I drive in my car, I love to listen to the words of Christ on my ipod. I find the more I feast on His words the more peace, love, and joy I feel each day from Heavenly Father. I love to teach my family about Jesus Christ and His Gospel. Each day, Heather and I read the scriptures with our children. They are all young, so we simply have them repeat the words as we read them aloud. Then, we talk about what they mean and how they apply to our lives. We sing songs with our children about Jesus and about His Gospel. We pray together as a family each morning, night, and throughout the day. We love to have family home evening, which is a time each Monday night where we get together, pray, learn about Jesus, sing songs, play, and simply spend time together. We go to church each Sunday to also learn more about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Our children love to participate in these activities, and it helps all of us to be more Christlike. I try to serve others each day. I believe that through small and simple things we can do incredible things. A simple smile, hello, or some kind word can change someone's day, and possibly their life. I try to live my faith by simply being like Jesus. As I do, I am truly happy!
