Hi I'm Sasha

I'm from Canada. I'm an elementary school teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 27 and I'm from Canada. I graduated university with a degree in French and Education. I enjoy hiking in the mountains, going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, reading, watching movies, playing the ukulele and trying new things. I love languages and travelling. While going to university, I studied 2 semesters abroad in France. After I graduated, I began my teaching career but then I decided to serve a mission for the church. I served in the Korea Seoul mission. It was the best experience in my life so far! Being able to dedicate all my time and efforts to serving the Lord and his children was such a rewarding experience. It was not easy but it was worth it! I had to learn to speak Korean which is a very difficult language to learn. I was exposed to a completely new culture and way of living. Every day, rain or shine, I was out on the streets inviting people to learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Because this gospel has blessed my life so much and I know it's true, I had to go out and share it with others. Now I'm back home and back to teaching elementary school. Right now I teach grade 5/6 French Immersion. I love helping children learn and develop and I look forward to the day that I have my own children to raise and love.

Why I am a Mormon

I was blessed to have grown up in the church and to have been taught the gospel principles from an early age. Even as a child I knew who the Savior was and my faith and testimony keeps growing every year. When I became a teenager, I decided I needed to find out for myself if the Book of Mormon was true rather than leaning on my parents' testimonies about it. So I began to read the Book of Mormon from the beginning to the end. While reading the Book of Mormon, I felt peace and when I finished it, I prayed to know if it was true. The answer I got was just a really good, quiet and peaceful feeling that it's true. That was just one of the things that has led to my personal conversion. I decided from an early age that I needed to keep the commandments and have high values. It wasn't always easy but as I look back on my life, I can see how much keeping the commandments has blessed my life and, as a result, my faith in the gospel has been strengthened so much. The church auxilaries really helped me build a solid foundation of that. The youth programs in the church are amazing. I went to seminary every morning at 7am for 4 years while I went to high school. Every morning I got to study the scriptures and learn about the gospel. In Young Women's and Sunday School I had amazing teachers who helped me realize how important the gospel is and I also made great friends in those programs who had the same values as me. Having good friends played a huge role in strengthening my testimony. Living the gospel isn't easy but it makes me so happy. I have a knowledge of who I am and what my purpose in this life is. I can look forward to the future with hope and excitement because I know Heavenly Father's plan for me. And whenever I have trials in my life, I know who to turn to and where to receive support and comfort; my Heavely Father and Jesus Christ. I know I have received so many blessings in my life for following Christ's gospel. I know this church is true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many different ways. The obvious one is by going to church every Sunday but it's so much more than that. In church we receive callings/assignments to serve in different ways at church. My calling right now is the Relief Society president of my branch. So I'm responsible for the women's organization at our church. I organize lessons for church, hold meetings with my counselors, plan recreational and service activities, and look after the spiritual and temporal needs of the members of the church. In my personal daily life, I strive to keep the commandments of God. I'm not perfect at this but I try to pray and read my scriptures every day. I also keep the word of wisdom which means not drinking any alcohol, coffee or tea, staying away from drugs, cigarettes and any other addicting/harmful substances. This one can be quite difficult to keep since it's such a social norm in our society, especially for young people to do. But I know I've been blessed in my life for keeping this commandment. I always look for ways to help and serve others. I know that living a charitable life is becoming more like the Savior. There are many other little things I do in my life to live my faith. Living your faith is more than just going to church, it's all about the everyday things you do and how you help others.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Sasha
We can come to know our Father in Heaven by talking to him in prayer every day, in the morning, at night, and throughout the day. When we pray to him, we should talk to Him like he's our father and we should have conversations with him. We need to thank him for our blessings, tell him how our day went, ask him to bless us and those we love, and ask him questions about what we should be doing in our lives. God will answer our prayers. Through the Holy Ghost, we receive answers. Thoughts will come to our mind or feelings will come to our heart. God also answers our prayers through the scriptures. Reading the scriptures also helps us to learn more about our Father in Heaven and we'll begin to build a stronger relationship with Him. When we keep His commandments, we see the blessings He gives us and that strengthens our faith and relationship with Him as well. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Sasha
They will teach you about our life's purpose; where we came from, why we're here and where we're going after this life. They'll teach about the Savior, Jesus Christ, and why we need a Savior and how He can help us in our lives. You'll learn about Christ's gospel and how it was restored in this dispensation through a prophet named Joseph Smith. They'll teach about the Book of Mormon and the importance of the book and that through reading the Book of Mormon we can come to know, for ourselves, if Christ is the Savior, if Joseph Smith is a prophet, if The Book of Mormon and this Church are true. They'll teach you how to pray and and they'll invite you to come unto Christ by following Him and keeping the commandments. Show more Show less
