Hi I'm Mark

My wife Kim and I live in Utah. I teach teenagers. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married to my wife Kim for 25 years. We have 5 children--two of whom are now married. Our family enjoys spending time working and playing together. We love to visit new places or just spend quiet time at home. I play golf and enjoy video editing and watching movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a member of the Church. My mom died when I was 9 after giving birth to my only other sibling--a little brother. I grew up with my dad and my brother was raised by my grandparents. My dad struggled his whole life with alcoholism and was in an out of activity in the Church. I found a great refuge in the gospel and gained a witness that Jesus Christ lives and that His gospel is restored to the earth. I found a lot of answers and peace as a teenager. I served a mission for the church 30 years ago among the Native Americans in Arizona it was a life-changing experience for me as I was able to watch others join the church and come to know the Savior. I returned from a mission and met my wife Kim. She and I were married in the Los Angeles temple. We've had a great deal of joy and some hardships in our life, but we have found so much happiness in the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am grateful to God for his love and His influence in my life. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that his love is real. We can all be healed from physical and spiritual problems as we turn to Him. God is there and loves us all!

How I live my faith

I have a pretty unique opportunity to have my career be part of the church. We don't have a paid clergy or local leadership, but some programs of the church are funded. One of those programs is called Seminaries and Institutes. Youth ages 14 to 18 attend seminary and young adults ages 18-30 attend institute. This is an opportunity for young people to meet together to be taught more about the Savior and his gospel. Most are taught by volunteers in local meetinghouses or homes, but in some areas where there are larger numbers of youth, there are seminary buildings built adjacent to High Schools and students can get a release from school to attend a seminary class during the day. I have been a seminary teacher my entire career. We have accepted job assignments in different parts of country including various locations in Utah and Washington State. It has been a blessing to work with teenagers and young adults and to watch their faith increase. I found seminary to be such a strong influence in my life to provide opportunities to feel the Holy Ghost and gain spiritual strength. In addition my career, I've been able to donate hundreds of hours of service. I've been able to serve in several leadership capacities in the church including Bishop of the ward twice. Right now I teach a missionary preparation class for young men in our area that are preparing to serve full-time missions. I also team teach the 10 year-old children in our local congregation with another man. We very much enjoy these kids and watching them gain testimonies of the gospel.
