Hi I'm Taft

I'm from Delaware. Reading & LEGO construction are my favorite hobbies. I'm married to the most wonderful girl in the world!

About Me

I am a recent business law graduate (B.A.) in my third year of "real world" work. I am happily married to the most wonderful girl in the world, my best friend. Recently, we became parents! I've lived across the U.S. from Utah to Delaware. At age 18 I earned my Eagle Scout award, by helping college students take C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) training. I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California (Nor-Cal), and loved it! My life goals include writing a novel, raising a family, and being the best dad and husband I can be. Currently, I work for a trust company. I've spent (too much) money on LEGO sets, and enjoy reading everything--including the back of the cereal box. Rock climbing is my favorite sport--when I have the time!

Why I am a Mormon

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know it really is the church of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know this through the Holy Ghost, which has told me--and reminded me--this is true. Jesus Christ suffered so that I, and all humans, have the opportunity to repent and be free from guilt and regret in this life, and live again with our families. He leads this church, and he loves all humankind, His brothers and sisters.

How I live my faith

I enjoy listening to others, and helping them find answers to life's questions. On a daily basis, I try to invite the Spirit into my life through daily prayer, and reading the scriptures, along with other inspirational books.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Taft
Nope. No one is "required" to serve a mission. Young men age 19-25 are strongly encouraged to serve, though, so the pressure to serve, for them, is high. As a returned missionary, I know why there's so much pressure for young men to serve: it will change your life. I learned so much about following the Spirit and relying on God's will. It would be a mistake to turn down the opportunity to serve. But, if a young man doesn't serve, he's not ostracized or anything. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Holy Ghost? Who is the Holy Ghost?

Taft
the Holy Ghost is a spirit that speaks to our spirits. He doesn't usually use words, though I'm not ruling that out! When the spirit speaks to me, it's usually a thought to do something or say something. Frequently it's a feeling, something I just feel I should do. It isn't an emotion, because sometimes he'll ask you to do things you don't want to do like going out of your way to help someone. It's a guide and and protection to feel his influence.
