Hi I'm Tyler

I'm a Computer Buff, I'm a big Gamer, I'm somewhat of a runner, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up and have lived most of my life in Northwest Arkansas. I am studying Computer Science with an emphasis in Animation. I am trying to learn Spanish and it is going muy bien. I am an Eagle Scout. I love seeing beautiful landscapes, climbing mountains, playing sports, and running. I ran Cross Country in high school and enjoy pushing the limits of my endurance. I have lost most of my endurance from lack of practice but still try to run every now and then. I worked for a year and a half troubleshooting computer hardware. I can rip a computer apart and put it back together. I can create a program to make your like easier or harder if I choose. I love working with computers, both hardware and software. I love playing video games. Mostly Role-Playing games and Real-time Strategy games. Some of my favorites include the Legend of Zelda games and Starcraft 2. I have played Final Fantasy 1 and 4-10, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, almost every game made by Blizzard Entertainment, all of the King's Quest Series, and Quest for Glory series, to name a few. I primarily computer game but also console game from time to time.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in this church but have come to know for myself that this church is true. Through reading in the scriptures and asking God if the Book of Mormon is true, I have received an answer for myself and know that the Book of Mormon is true, Joseph Smith is a prophet, and this church is the true Church of Jesus Christ today.  Everyday because I know that the Church is true, I do things like daily Scripture study and prayer, which bring a lot of happiness into my life. I am a Mormon because it brings me the most joy in this life and the life to come.

How I live my faith

I love to share with others what I believe and what has brought me the most happiness in this life. I love answering questions about our religion. I live my faith by sharing the joy I have in my life with others. Everyday I strive to be as Christlike as I can. I am nowhere near perfect and each day I try to correct my many mistakes and be a better person. That is what my faith is all about trying to be the best I can be everyday. Everyday I also read in the Scriptures to better my understanding of the Life of Christ and His Doctrine. I also pray several times throughout the day to my Heavenly Father for help, guidance, and blessings, but also to just give thanks for all that He has done for me. Everyday when I do read and pray, the day goes much smoother and my attitude is much better. I am currently serving a mission for the Church in the Oregon Eugene Spanish Speaking mission. I love talking to people about our Savior Jesus Christ and His Gospel. Each day I try to share His joyful Gospel with everyone I can.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Tyler
We invite all people to come to believe for themselves. We invite people to read the Book of Mormon and pray to God to know if it is true. For if the Book of Mormon is true then so is the beliefs of our Church. I know the Church is true because I have received an answer and know that the Book of Mormon is true. In order to know that a fruit is good, what must you do? Judging by looks only goes so far. You have to try it to find out if it is sweet or rotten. It is the same with the Book of Mormon. Only by trying it, and reading through its pages can you know that it is true. And if it is true - and I know that it IS true, because I have read it - then so is our Church. You will come to know it is true as you read its pages, and then ask God if these things are true. He will confirm the truth of it through the Power of the Holy Spirit who speaks through your feelings. The Book of Mormon, because of the Spirit it brings, will bring you feelings of peace, hope, comfort, happiness, or others found in Galations 522-23. The Book of Mormon will change your life if you sincerely desire to know that it is true. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Tyler
Missionaries want to share the joy that they have received from being a Mormon. I have come to know that our Heavenly Father truly does answer my prayers and helps me every day. Knowing this brings me great joy. I want to help others come closer to God, who is truly Our Loving Heavenly Father. Missionaries feel this same joy that I feel and want to bring everyone to come to know Christ more and to feel His love on a daily basis. I have done missionary work for this same reason. I have seen the joy that the Teachings of Jesus Christ bring into the lives of others. For this reason I volunteered two years of missionary service in the Oregon, Eugene Spanish-speaking Mission. What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Tyler
Missionaries will talk to you about God our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. They will help you come closer to His son Jesus Christ and to become a better person. Missionaries will build upon your faith and will not destroy your beliefs. They are there to answer any questions you have about religion in general and how you can grow to love and appreciate Christ more. They will teach about the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ, the Plan of Salvation, the Gospel of Jesus Christ - which is Faith in Jesus Christ, Repentance, Baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End. They will invite you to make changes to follow the example of Jesus Christ and become a better person in this life. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Tyler
We are often called Mormons as a nickname. This is because one thing that sets us apart from other Christian religions is a book of scripture like the Bible called The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Because of the title of this book people call us Mormons. The real person named Mormon was a prophet, or someone who receives direction from God for the people like Moses, in the ancient Americas around the year 400 AD. He complied the records about 1000 years of history of the inhabitants of the Americas into one record. This record was translated by the power of God through Joseph Smith and today we have it as the Book of Mormon. The official name of the church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is because we believe it to be the same Church established by Jesus Christ during His mortal ministry again established in these latter or final days. Thus it is the Church of Jesus Christ made up of members in the latter days. Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Tyler
Every church building says on it "Visitors welcome." We invite all people to come to church with us and worship with us. Our church service is divided into three parts each about one hour long. First is the most important and is called sacrament meeting. This is when we partake of the Sacrament or bread and water to remember the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ. We also have people who were previously assigned to speak address the congregation with their thoughts on a specific spiritual topic such as the meaning of the Sacrament, The life of Jesus Christ, or Christlike attributes. Second is a class called Sunday School. This is a class where the scriptures are studied together and questions may be asked and discussed. Feel free to ask questions during this class. Last is another class with separation by age and gender. This is done to help teach each person according to their needs. Everyone learns differently especially different age groups. Men and women think differently and also feel more comfortable talking about certain subjects with fellow men and women. It is not to isolate or make anyone feel inferior. Everyone is welcome to visit and come talk about Christ and the scriptures with us. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Tyler
Faith is a belief in something that causes you to act. Having a strong faith in Jesus Christ causes us to change our ways to become more like him. Our faith leads us to know that if we follow the commandments of Christ, we can be forgiven for our sins. Faith gives a strong hope. For with our faith, we trust through God's power all things will turn out for the best. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Tyler
The Priesthood is the authority to act in God's name. This authority is what God gives to man to do His work on the Earth. When Christ was on the earth he called and gave this authority to his apostles. In Luke chapter 9 verse 1 we read "Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases." See also Matthew chapter 10 verse 1 This authority is important to perform ordinances of God such as baptism, conferring the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and blessing the Sacrament. It can be likened to this example If you were driving on the road and an ice cream truck flipped on its siren and pulled you over. You would not have to pay that ticket. However, if a police car pulls you over, you do have to pay that ticket. This is because the Police officer has been authorized by the State to do so. It is the same with God. If some random guy on the street ran in and baptized you, would it really count? No. He needs to have the authority from God known as the Priesthood. Holding the Priesthood is an honor. It does not make you better than another. Nothing in the Priesthood can be done for yourself. No one is able to baptize himself, bless himself, or any other ordinance of the Priesthood for himself. It is given to serve others. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Tyler
The Book of Mormon was written by the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. Their prophets wrote their history starting with the first prophet named Lehi. Lehi left with his family from Jerusalem around 600 B.C. After traveling for several years, they crossed the ocean and arrived somewhere in the Americas. After about 1000 years of history being recorded, a prophet named Mormon started to compile all the records into one record. He abridged 1000 years worth of history into what we now have as the Book of Mormon. It is called the Book of Mormon because Mormon is the one who complied it. As Mormon and he son Moroni finished compiling the record, they were inspired to include things specifically to help us in our day. The Book of Mormon ends with a promise that all who read and pray about it will come to know by the Holy Ghost that it is a true book and another testament of Jesus Christ. The record was buried by Moroni to wait until these final days to, with the Bible, help us know what we need to do to return to live with God. This record's location was later shown to Joseph Smith and he translated it by the power of God. Show more Show less
