Hi I'm Renee Fokken

I am preparing to serve a full time mission in the Alpine German Speaking Mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a student studying Recreation Management with a minor in Marriage and Family. I hope to someday become a Marriage and Family therapist but use forms of recreation to create the bonds necessary to establish and maintain a happy marriage and/or family. I am always seeking new adventures and love to travel. Even though I love adventures, deciding to serve a mission has been one of the hardest things I have done. I always thought marriage would knock on my door before a mission would. After seeking diligently the Lord's will, and completely submitting myself to what he would have me do, I knew I needed to go, despite all of my fears. I am anxiously awaiting my time to serve in the Alpine German-Speaking Mission and promise to serve the Lord as well as the people with all my heart, might, mind and strength, for I glory in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the only way that we can return to our Father's presence and dwell with him forever.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church but that doesn't necessarily explain "why" I am Mormon. We have all had agency from the beginning of time. I became truly converted to the gospel when I was a junior in high school. Life was a little shaky. My parents were on the verge of divorce, I felt entirely alone, felt like there was no one who really cared if I lived or died. Despite how miserable I felt, I kept reading the Book of Mormon because we are commanded to do so and I knew that I could feel peace as I read it. When I finally completed the Book of Mormon, I took the challenge in Moroni 104. I got down on my knees to find out for myself if these words were true. As I prayed, I felt an overwhelming feeling of comfort and peace in my soul. I knew in that moment, that everything I had ever learned up to that point in my life was true. The Book of Mormon is true. Joseph Smith is a true prophet. Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. We have a living prophet today. And the Lord has a plan for me that is worth living for. I knew that even if everything else around me let me down, the Lord would always be there with open arms.

How I live my faith

Life as a college student, especially during finals, can be quite hectic. Though some may tend to think they don't have time to visit the temple, say their prayers, read their scriptures, or attend their church meetings at these times, I find that it is ten times more difficult to accomplish the things in secular learning without progressing spiritually. I know I am not the smartest student in my class, but because I rely so much on the Lord, I am able to do rather well in my schooling. I attend all of my church meetings every week. I also attend the Rexburg temple on a weekly basis. I try to read/study my scriptures daily. I pray every morning and night. Though these may seem like such simple mundane tasks, it is through the small and simple things that great things are brought to pass.
