Hi I'm Rex

I'm a husband and father, a podiatrist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband and father. I've been married to my sweet wife for 4 years. Our son is a spunky redhead, about 2 years old. We love to see him grow and learn new things. I especially like how excited he gets when I come home near the end of the day. I'm a recent graduate of podiatry school and currently continuing my training to be a foot and ankle surgeon. I enjoy helping to alleviate foot pain and making sure that people who are at risk can keep their feet. I have a website, ActuallyFree.info, which was created to help people live within a budget by getting free products and services. One of my favorite free items is the Book of Mormon. You can order a free copy for yourself on Mormon.org and have it delivered by missionaries. I am a Mormon. Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so we are also referred to as LDS or Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church. This presented me with opportunities to learn the Gospel. However, like anyone who is born or not born in the church, I had to learn for myself that it's true. So the real question is "why am I STILL a Mormon?" I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I know that Joseph Smith was His prophet, just like Moses and Peter, because he translated the Book of Mormon. As a teenager, my local bishop challenged me to read The Book of Mormon from cover to cover. I agreed to his challenge and followed through with it. There were multiple times where I felt impressed that the book is true, and God confirmed these impressions again as I prayed and asked him if it is true. Since being a teenager, I've come to realize again and again that if Jesus had a church on Earth, He would have prophets and apostles to run the church. This is the pattern He has always used in the past. It is the same pattern He will always use now and in the future. With each prophet, either in the scriptures or living today, I seek God's confirmation to know if that prophet speaks on His behalf. The most recent of these experiences occured with a world-wide televised church meeting. I was watching this meeting at home with my wife and son. When the current prophet, Thomas S. Monson, stood up to the pulpit, I pulled my son up on my lap to settle him down and said, "listen to the prophet." I had said this without really thinking about what I was saying, but almost immediately a feeling came over me that what I had said was true. Even as I write this I have the same feeling. Thats how I know that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God.

How I live my faith

Every day I try to make the right decisions and act as if Jesus were beside me. Sometimes I make mistakes. No one is perfect, including me. Thankfully I know God will forgive me as long as I keep trying and do my best. In my local congregation I assist the men's group in service. On any given week we could be presented with tasks such as finding resources for getting jobs, making sure someone has food to eat, providing support for new mothers, helping someone move, doing yard work and other service projects. We also visit families in the congregation every month to share a spiritual message and assist them with any needs that they may have. I was a missionary in Bolivia for two years between 2000 and 2002.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Rex
Historically, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were nick-named "mormons" because of the association with The Book of Mormon.  Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Rex
The Book of Mormon is an abridgment of ancient historical and religious texts which were written by prophets who lived on the ancient American continent. It is called The Book of Mormon because the prophet who abridged the records was named Mormon. Show more Show less
