Hi I'm Shannon

I love reading, playing soccer, and learning about history. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an eighteen year old senior in college studying history. I was able to get my associate's degree in high school through a program called Dual Enrollment. I love history! I find it really interesting to learn about people from the past. I hope to pursue a doctorate degree and be a college professor. I love soccer! I have played soccer my entire life. I have refereed soccer with my dad since I was 12. I love to read! I love to read anything and everything. Historical fiction is my favorite, surprise, surprise. I love my family and I can't wait to have a family of my own. My parents have been married for 25 years. I hope to be just like them. I have two sisters, an older one and a younger one. I'm a middle child. I am excited about life and all the possibilites I have as I approach college graduation.

Why I am a Mormon

My grandparents on both sides were converted to the church as young adults. My parents were married in the temple and I was raised in the church. Recently, when I was faced with independence, I was also faced with the decision of whether to continue going to church or not. The question was easily answered. I love going to church. I love feeling the spirt and learning about Christ. I love the knowledge that my family can be together forever. I love the happiness that church brings to my life. I know that I am a Daughter of God, that he loves me, and knows me individually. This knowledge has been crucial in my life it has helped me get through so many hard times and helped me make many big decisions. The church has been vital in shaping the person I am today.

How I live my faith

I am the secretary of the women's organization in my single's ward. I help to make the calander, so that everyone knows what is going on. As leaders of the women's organization we help to make sure that all of the girls have what they need. When people are sick we try to find someone to make them meals, and when they are hospitalized we make sure they are visited and cared for. As a woman in the church I get to be a visiting teacher. Visiting teachers are placed in charge of a few other women in the ward. I get to share my testimony with them and help to take care of them. My job is to make sure that the have everything they need physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Shannon
I think having faith in God strengthens my marriage because it gives us a common ground to stand on. We grow closer to each other as we grow closer to God. Having the same faith means we have the same standards and similar goals and outlooks on life. It makes marriage sooo much easier when all those things are already in line, all we have to do is have fun. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Shannon
The Law of Chastity is the commandment we have been given to keep ourselves clean from things of a sexual nature. We save intimiate relationships for our spouses. I was always taught that my virute was a gift that I could only give one person, so why give that to anyone but the person I'm going to spend the rest of my life with? Being able to share that special bond with only one person adds imeasurable strength and loyalty to a marriage. It provides happiness and peace of mind. The Law of Chastity is Gods way of showing us how to be happy. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about family?

Shannon
The family is central to life. We need to be close with our families and spend time with them. Men are responsible for providing for the family and women are responsible for nurturing. Both are equals and in charge of raising righteous children. Families are great blessings and there are many who take advantage of that. Spending time with family and building relationships is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. My husbands family is an excellent example of how close families can be. They all drive hours for any big event in a family members life. They love being together and sharing time. I hope to be able to raise my children with my husband to be the best they can be.
