Hi I'm Ben

I'm half Navajo and grew up in Texas. I sing Baroque opera and hope for a future in medicine. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a single college student in Florida, about to graduate with my Master's in Vocal Performance. I love music listening, singing, and playing the piano. It's a passion that I'm going to enjoy for the rest of my life. My educational focus is in classical singing and opera, but I enjoy many different types of music. Interestingly, I've learned through my education that a career in opera is not the best fit for me. I'm now going to finish the prerequisites for and apply to enter Medical School in the upcoming years. I'm grateful for the support of my parents and the Church in helping me to make decisions about my future career.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Mormon faith, but I came into my own testimony of the Church and the gospel when I was making the decision to serve for two years as a Mormon missionary. I read the Book of Mormon for the first time in my life when I was 18. After I finished it, I followed the promise in Moroni 10 and prayed about the truth of the book. What followed was a spiritual confirmation that was more powerful than anything I had ever felt before it was so intense that it left me in tears. The first thing I wanted to do afterwards was find someone - anyone - and give them my Book of Mormon, promising them that they wouldn't believe what they would feel at the end. That experience will stay with me forever.

How I live my faith

I serve in my Student Singles Ward as the Ward Music Chairman - I choose the hymns for the sacrament service on Sunday, as well as organize special musical numbers. I also hometeach a number of different singles in the ward once a month, visiting them and teaching them a short lesson on how to apply the teachings of the Church in their homes. I also do my best to read the scriptures on a daily basis and serve as often as I can. I've found that if I keep my Church and gospel commitments, the other priorities of my life classes, homework, work fall into place.
