Hi I'm Johnson Shimai! (Shakira)

I am a lover. I am a Peacemaker. I am a missionary! I am a Mormon.

About Me

Konnichiwa! My name is Shakira Johnson, and I am currently a missionary for the Church in Sendai, Japan! Before I became a missionary, I was a university student studying music; I am a cellist, and I specialize in music theory! I performed in different symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles, and as a soloist as well. When I'm not being a missionary, or playing my cello, you can usually find me on my fixed-gear bicycle that I built myself! I have one older brother who is my best friend, and my parents have been happily married for more than 23 years now. I am definitely a city girl; I love the urban environment and the hustle and bustle of city life, but I also love the mountains and the outdoors. I have five philosophies by which I live my life: Peace. Love. Happiness. Sunshine. Music. All of these personal-belief systems stem from my testimony of and faith in my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know He is real, and that He lives! He knows my name and my face, and He loves me. Iesu Kirisuto wa Sukuinushi da to shitte imasu!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know Jesus Christ and His love for me. I have felt His love, guidance, forgiveness, and acceptance many times. I have seen and experienced His Atonement work in my life, and through Him, I have seen many small but mighty miracles. Jesus Christ is my best friend He knows me and He loves me in spite of my flaws. At the lowest point in my life thus far, I clung to Him for love and support, and I felt His loving arms wrap around me. The Holy Ghost whispered to me, speaking for Christ, "Shakira, you are wonderful." That is why I am a Mormon. This is the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I know and believe without a shadow of a doubt that He leads and guides me today, and that He is aware of me. He knows my name and He knows me better than I know myself. I love Him, and He loves me.  It is my desire to be the best missionary He would have me be, so that I will be able to share His love and Light to all those I meet.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be as much like Jesus Christ as possible. I try to follow His example in everything I do, everything I say, and everything I think about. One of the best parts about being a full-time missionary is that I get to think about Christ 24 hours a day, seven days a week! Everyday, I try as hard as I can to have peaceful and loving relations with everyone I meet. I love all people, and strive to reach out to as many as I can; right now, that is completely directed towards the Japanese people in Sendai. This is hard to do, but it is how I show the people around me, even those I don't know, that there is hope in living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The love that I feel for others is just a very tiny increment of the love that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father have for the people of this earth, so I strive to show that love to all those with whom I come in contact. I try to be as fun, loving, caring, and happy as possible so that I can be a guiding Light to those around me. I often like to refer to people like myself (optimists) as "happy fire" people. We have the Light of the Savior, Jesus Christ in our countenences, and we strive to live like Him.

Are Mormons Christians?

Johnson Shimai! (Shakira)
As I Mormon, I am a member of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints. Christ is right there in the title! I am 110 percent Christian. In the Book of Mormon, in the book of second Nephi, we read "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what resource they may look for a remission of their sins." Jesus Christ is my Savior, and is the Savior and Redeemer of all the world, past, present and future. He is the Only Begotten Son of the Father, and He died so that I can be washed clean of my sins and therefore dwell in the presence of my Father in Heaven.  Show more Show less
