Hi I'm Bruce

I grew up and raised my family in California. Right now I live in Cuernavaca, Mexico serving as a missionary for our church.

About Me

As a California native now living in Idaho I've taken up the sport of fly fishing. I can be on world-class rivers in less than an hour from my home. We're close to Yellowstone and Jackson, WY. I've been a recreational runner for over 20 years, with my new favorite distance being the half-marathon. I spent a number of years in Silicon Valley, CA working in the high technolgy industry, traveling all of the world in the process. I am now a college professor and administrator, just recently completing a Ph.D. in instructional design. I guess I am kind of a late bloomer, but I have a deep love of and appreciation for learning. As for other interests, I love a good spy novel, or "who did it?" thriller. My wife is the food expert in the family, but I've recently begun to hone my grilling and meat smoking skills. I even dream about opening my own bbq restaurant someday. I've had fun learning these skills and even created my own bbq sauce.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a Mormon all my life. My Mom was a lifelong member but my Father wasn't. He agreed that I would be raised in the Mormon faith and I will be forever grateful he did so. As a young man of 19 years of age I spent two years in Guatemala and El Salvador sharing our message with the wonderful people there. I knew then and know now that what we believe brings happiness to individuals and families in a unique and singular way. I cannot imagine what my life would be like without my membership in the Church. I especially am grateful for what I have learned and have come to know about Jesus Christ and His Atonement. We would be eternally lost without Him. It is because of His perfect and infinite love we have the opportunity to change our lives and prepare to live eternally with our Heavenly Father, the Savior, and our families. We have been provided the perfect gospel through living prophets, scriptures, and sacred ordinances that help and guide back to the presence of God. I have had the opportunity to have personal conversations with several of the men we consider to be prophets, seers, and revelators. I know they are what we believe and profess them to be: prophets, just like Noah, Abraham, and Moses. Joseph Smith is the prophet God selected to restore the gospel in these latter days. The Book of Mormon is the foundation and keystone of our religion. I know that any truth-seeking person that will honestly read and pray about this book will come to know for themself that these things are true. The gospel and Church of Jesus Christ IS on the earth. It's teachings bring happiness, joy, and the opportunity to prepare for a glorious eternity beyond anything we can possibly comprehend.

How I live my faith

As a couple, the first priority for my wife and me has always been to be true to what we believe, and to share our love for the Savior with our children. We are grateful that they too embrace our faith and are actively raising families of their own. We have been blessed to serve in our local units in a variety of ways. I have led local congregations twice, and for several years had responsibility for eleven local congregations of college students. Much of my church service has been with the youth, where I now work with 14 & 15 year old young men. In the not too distant future, my wife and I will be leaving our home to serve as missionaries for three years in a location yet to be determined. We will oversee the missionary work of some 150-200 missionaries who will be speaking Spanish. We are thrilled to go and look forward to inviting many of Heavenly Father's children to come unto Christ.
