Hi I'm Mike

I'm a Coastie, I'm an observer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married and have four daughters. Although that says a lot about how I spend my free time; I've also been in the U.S. Coast Guard for the past 8 years and recently graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Management. I love sports, especially basketball, football and snowboarding. My family and I have visited 35 of the United States and I am fascinated with astronomy.

Why I am a Mormon

Why become a "Mormon"? What a great question that can't be fully explained within the confines of this box. My current and ever increasing passion for this church originated in my late teenage years when my loving single mother tried her best to raise a rebellious son who had very little faith in the people of this world or a higher power. Through miraculous intervention I came to know that I needed and was able to change the person I was, which ignited a love and purpose inside of me which I cannot find an equal to. I completely shifted my lifestyle and began looking for a “greater’ purpose to life by reading religious texts. As I read the Holy Bible, I felt a deep conviction that the person called Jesus had a life full of love and power that wasn’t fictional and was available to me. I've visited several different religions’ meetings over the past 15 years and have a profound respect for people being able to worship how they feel God commands them to. I am a "Mormon" because I have spent countless hours contemplating how I feel God interacts with man and what he commands us to do in order for him to bless us. I know the Book of Mormon testifies of a being named Jesus who was not simply a man but was sent from God to allow us to know what is required to return to his presence. I know the Book of Mormon clarifies many life centered questions including our relationship with God, what he wants us to do; as well as, the positive and negative consequences to our choices. I know that living prophets are part of God's plan and that there are living prophets today. More than anything pertaining to this religion I know that the spirit of god is present among the people of this world. I constantly see its influence in my life while at home, work, at the temple, and fulfilling my church responsibilities. I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating why I am a member of this church and what benefits I have received; and I honestly can’t see myself without it. I am eternally indebted to God for allowing me to become a better man, husband, and father; and feel closer to him as I am faithful to the principles and ordinances of this church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by becoming a better person as I read about and emulate faithful people in the scriptures; as well as, many good people around me. I live my faith by spending time coordinating missionary efforts between my congregation, 17 wonderful full time and part time missionaries, and the local non-Mormon community. I live my faith by visiting other local religions so I can build upon common beliefs and identify new ways to help others.
