Hi I'm Shawni

Music is my passion, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a native of the wonderful state of Idaho. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Music Degree at Brigham Young University Idaho. I played the clarinet as my main instrument but I can also play the piano, tin flute, guitar, nose flute, and radio. ;) I absolutely love to sing as well, and I just happen to be an alto. I've written many poems as well as songs, and I plan to eventually record the songs. But as of yet I just haven't found the time. Another passion of mine is dancing. I specialize in swing dancing but I have also taken some Ballroom classes here and there, as I am always willing to learn more dances. I served as a Mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I taught the gospel of Jesus Christ in the beautiful Spanish language. I use my Spanish at my current job as a Secretary, but my dream job is to be a Stay-at-home mom and tune pianos on the side.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an LDS family and have grown up in the church. I chose to be baptized when I was eight years old because I felt like it was the right thing to do. But just because I was baptized didn't mean that I understood all the doctrines of the church at that point in my life. I've had struggles with my testimony many a time over different aspects of doctrine and faith. But every single time I go to my Heavenly Father in prayer and the Spirit testifies to me the truthfulness of everything I have been taught. These experiences have increased my love and faith in my Heavenly Father and Savior.

How I live my faith

I read my scriptures and pray as part of my daily schedule, and I know it helps me through all the trials I face. I also attend weekly meetings in my church and I am able to learn more about doctrines by being taught, as well as through participating in lessons to teach others what I have come to know for myself. I have served in many callings and have enjoyed the growing experiences I have had through each of them. I've learned to love everyone I meet because we are all children of God and have our unique stories of how we are trying to return to Him. I started the habit of going to the temple often in about 2007. Every time I go, I leave with a feeling of calm and readiness to take on whatever new challenges are coming my way. I also chose to spend 18 months to serve a mission and Spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Shawni
In our church we believe in a pre-existance. There we were allowed the opportunity to decide to come to earth and go through trials to prove our ability to live righteously by using our agency (ability to choose) in accordance with God's commandments. Part of coming into mortality is creating a way for other spirit children of God to come to earth as well. Marriage of a man and a woman is of God, and through ceremonies in the temple the priesthood is used to seal a marriage to God. This means that a marriage will go beyond death and that any children born to that couple will also be sealed to them. In that way we believe families to be eternal. Show more Show less
