Hi I'm Joan R.

I'm a Mormon. I have been a member of the Church for 35 years and love doing family history work love going to the temple.

About Me

I'm a 77 year old mother of three boys who has found that retirement is not retiring, but an opening to doing all the things that I couldn't do while working out of the home. I belong to organizations which help the community have a safer and better environment for family and find time to be a good friend and do fun things,..life has been good, it just gets better.

Why I am a Mormon

All my life I enjoyed going to church and teaching and participating in the programs. While I loved being in many different denominations due to moving around the country, I prayed for a stirring in my heart if I wasn't in the place where Heavenly Father wanted me to be. It was not until I was 36 years old did I first met the young missionaries tracting in my neighborhood. Though I knew little of the Church I felt a tender heart towards these young men and invited them to many dinners and even took discussions (without the intentions of changing churches) and this went on for 6 years. I realized that this was the Church I was searching for and the stirring was replaced with a peace in my soul a wonderful fulfillment began in my heart,..and has lasted for 35 years.

How I live my faith

While I joined the Church believing I could sit back and just learn, I found that the Lord doesn't intend for anyone to just sit back. I have been blessed with callings such as Sunday School and Primary Teacher, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Seminary Teacher, Compassionate Service and Social Service Representative Scout Leadership positionsand many more responsibilities which brought me into a world of service and teaching I didn't know was possible. Visiting Teaching and Genealogy are programs which help us as members get to really know and serve others. Opportunities are limitless for serving and receiving blessings.

What is the difference between attending a Mormon Church and a Mormon Temple?

Joan R.
Often people don't understand that attending a Mormon Church and visiting the Temples are very different. We attend our meetings on Sundays and other weekday activities and have an opportunity to take the Sacrament (communion as many consider this) but going to the Temple gives us greater opportunity to learn more about our world and our purpose here on earth. I feel closer to Heavenly Father and our Savior there in the Temple then anyother place I have ever been. We also can do work for those deceased members of our family who had not had the opportunity to learn of the Gospel and accept covenants which will bring us home again to our Heavenly Father,...Believing that families are supposed to be together forever helps us know that we work we do in the Temple is very special and important.
