Hi I'm Melissa

I'm a runner. I'm a poet. I'm a wife and mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and mother of three girls and a baby boy who all keep me busy! Most of my time is spent with my kids and my husband, but I also enjoy exercising, reading, writing poetry, family history, and crafts.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon and so were my parents and grandparents. Both of my great-grandparents on both sides joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at some point in their lives and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. Though as I child I grew up relying on my parent's faith, I have gained a testimony for myself of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It did not happen all at once and I can't say I remember an exact day I knew this church was true. I simply did the things my parents taught me to do like read my scriptures, pray, and go to church over a period of many years. Each time I did these things, I felt good inside and knew that what I was doing was right. Even now as I continue to do these things, my testimony continues to grow. It is this testimony that keeps me doing the things I know to be right. It gives me strength and joy each day. The gospel brings me so much happiness! The stories in the scriptures are so inspiring and their lessons teach me daily. Praying to my Heavenly Father is a priceless gift and I know He hears and answers all prayers in His own time. I know that God watches over us and is very aware of our personal circumstances. I know that God has a plan for us, that every person on this earth is His son or His daughter and that He wants us all to return to Him. For this reason He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to show us how to live and then to give His life for us. I know Jesus Christ lives. I know He died for us and that through Him we can overcome our sins and weaknesses. He has helped me more times in my life than I can even count or even recognize. I will always be grateful for His perfect love and I know He loves all people with this love. I know to that true happiness comes from living a life like Christ full of love and service towards others. Knowing these things gives me hope, comfort, and peace while living in troubled times.

How I live my faith

For me, a few things stand out in how I live my faith. I have daily scripture study, prayer, and attend church services each Sunday with my family. Each morning before school while our girls eat breakfast, we read from the scriptures to start our day off right. Each Monday night, my husband and I gather our children and spend time together teaching them about Jesus Christ and His gospel. We started gratitude journals to help us look for the blessings God has given us throughout the day and we try to write in them nightly. I also help with the youth program in my church, specifically the four and five year olds. I teach them a gospel lesson every other Sunday, trading off with a team teacher. I also love service opportunities with my family, especially visiting a local nursing home and doing musical programs for them.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Melissa
No, Mormons believe every person on the earth is a child of God and this makes us all brothers and sisters. We know that the worth of each soul is great in the sight of God. Christ has told us to love one another and we believe in sharing this love with everyone, whether they be of our faith or not. Show more Show less
