Hi I'm Robert

I'm a Mormon. I joined the church in 1976 in Colorado

About Me

Hi , My name is Robert, but all my friends call me Bob or Bobby. I am 48 years old and live in Illinois. I am the father of 5 children, 4 boys and one girl. I met my wife while serving a mission for the church in Virginia. We were married in 1990 in the Salt Lake Temple. I love oil painting, and teaching classes on oil painting. I worked Security for a bank for several years until we moved to Illinois, I then started a gift shop in a Swedish Colony, which I ran for about 6 or seven years. Now I am a stay at home Dad

Why I am a Mormon

Our family went through ten years of missionary discussions before ever joining the church, Or at least I should say 5 of the 8 went through ten years. My older siblings joined the church long before the rest of us. We went through the discussions, and read from the Book of Mormon (Another Testiment of Jesus Christ), But my Father never would commit to Baptism. It wasn't until we moved from Illinois to Colorado that we joined the church. I remember coming home from a friends around 10pm and the Missionaries were still at our house. This was highly unusual since they were usually home by 9pm. They came by and had another discussion with the family, and told my Dad the Baptismal Font was filled and was waiting for us. They said it was now or never. We dropped everything and proceeded to the Stake Center in our town in Colorado, and was Baptized about 10:30pm. We were one of several families being baptized that evening. Becoming a member of the Church changed my life. We prayed often, and had the truthfulness of the gospel confirmed to us by the power of the Holy Ghost. I have no doubt what so ever that the Church is true. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that a young boy named Joseph Smith was humble enough to ask of God which Church to join, and was told to join none of them, for the fulness of the Gospel was not on the Earth. I know that through Jospeh, God restored the fulness of the everlasting Gospel to the face of the earth. I know Joseph was called of God to be a Prophet, and that we have a living Proghet on the earth today. God has always had prophets on the earth to testify of him and the Gospel. Why should today be any different? I know that during the dark ages the gospel in its fulness was removed from the Earth due to the wickedness of the people. Therefore the gospel needed to be restored in its fulness. I love the Lord God and his son Jesus Christ. I know that through their power the fulness of the gospel was restoed and I say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

I love the Church, and all that it means in my life. It's not always easy to live the Gospel and I will admit I have had my share of struggles. I even went inactive for a time, however my testimony never failed. I have a strong testimony of the Church. I teach Cub Scouts on Wednesday nights at the Church, and try to make it a fun time for the boys, while at the same time incorporating church values in our lessons. Living life as a latter day saint is not a Sunday only responsiblilty. People watch you 24/7 so you always need to do the right thing.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Robert
The book of Mormon is an ancient record of the people who lived on the Amercian Continent. It also testifies of Jesus Christ and His ministry on the earth. The prophets of the American Continent were commanded to also keep records, which they recorded on plates of Gold, The Prophet Moroni was commanded to bury the plates in the earth for safe keeping, and in due time, they would come forth to reveal the truths recorded upon them. Young Joseph, after inquring about which church to join, was told to join none for in due time he would be the one to bring forth the ancient record, and restore the true church and its fulness to the earth. How can I know Mormonism is true?

Robert
The best way to know if the Church is true, is to study it out in your own mind, Read the Book of Mormon, and then go directly to the Lord in Prayer. Asking with a sincere heart and contrite spirit, if the things you have read and heard are true. I promise you that the Lord will reveal the truthfulness of the Church and its messages to you through the Power of the Holy Ghost. He will cause your Bossom to burn within you, and by this you will know without a doubt that the things I have told you and the things you have read are true. Do not take my word for it or anyone elses word for it. Go directly to the Lord himself and simply Ask. He will let you know I promise. Show more Show less
