Hi I'm Douglas

I live in Scotland and joined the Mormon church in 1980.

About Me

I'm married with six children and we attend church each Sunday and find that being members of the church has strengthened our family. My wife keeps busy rearing our family whilst I work as a sales director with a local company. I have had many opportunities to give service within the church and to hold voluntary positions which has helped me grow spiritually and understand better the needs of others. I feel my life has more focus and purpose and I am better placed to deal with life's challenges.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always attended church because I had faith in God however the church I attended couldn't sufficiently answer some of life's fundamental questions about our purpose here and what happens after death. It was only when our family met the missionaries of the church that we were taught about God's plan of happiness that required us to do certain things in order to return and live in his presence again. The first thing they asked us to do was to pray about what they had taught us and encouraged us to read from the Book of Mormon to find out for ourselves if these things were true. It was only after I prayed to know if I should get baptised and join the church that I got my answer. That private experience as I prayed has changed my life forever. It is difficult to describe what I felt that day but it is a feeling that I could not deny and I knew then that God does answer prayer.

How I live my faith

I say my prayers each day and read from either the Bible or Book of Mormon. I find that as I pray I find answers to my prayers through what I read in the scriptures. Church social activities and church meetings give me the opportunity to meet and listen to other members experiences and gain strength through their friendship and support. I would say that a large part of my social circle is church members, which makes it easier for me live the teachings of the church with my friends being good examples to myself and family.

What is the difference between attending a Mormon Church and a Mormon Temple?

Only those members who have been baptised for no less than 1 year and who are living up to the standards of the church qualify to attend the temple and participate in temple ordinances. All visitors and members can enter and participate in church meetings in any of our chapels. It is due to the sacred nature of the work we perform within the temple that requires an individual to be prepared and worthy to be involved in this work. It must be noted that all are invited to prepare to one day be ready to attend the temple and this is the goal of all members. Show more Show less
