Hi I'm Ben Welling

I'm a Med student. I'm happily married to my dream girl. I grew up in Portland Oregon, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm livin' the dream finishing my first year of medical school. Though very likely to change, I have my sights set on either pediatrics, surgery, or both. Apart from school, I love to hike, wake board, snowboard, camp, and read. I'm married to my best friend. She is kind, beautiful, and supportive. Though every life has its struggles, I feel extremely blessed.

Why I am a Mormon

This was a process for me, as I would bet it is for everyone. I think the foundation of my faith rests on the answers I have found to the questions that I believe everyone longs to know. Questions like, is there something lasting? Is there something that is forever and constant? What is true happiness, and how can I find it? What’s my purpose? I can honestly and happily say that I have found the answers to these questions. My soul is satisfied by what I now know. In my search to find answers I was driven to scripture and to my knees. I can say without any reservation that as I searched, I felt and received answers. My answers came in a quite yet powerful feeling. I have felt these feelings enough times to now to recognize that they aren't from me. I know that it is my Father who responds to my requests for comfort and understanding. Because of my search, I know, as well as I know anything, that there are eternal things. I know that He is real. I know it because I have felt Him tell me so. I have found that He will always know me and care for me. As I have listened to His voice I have been guided to a set of beliefs I know to be true. These beliefs include knowledge that families can be together forever, through obedience and the atonement of Christ. I know that there is real forgiveness through Jesus Christ and his sacrifice. I know that there is always hope. I know that God is very concerned with our lives and out of that same love He chooses to continue to speak to man. The voice of God has led me to know that God calls prophets today, and through a prophet, Joseph Smith, He has the restored true, eternal, constant gospel. It has been through feeling this voice that I have come to know that there are some things that are very real and those are the things I believe I must hold close. I treasure my faith, being Mormon, because it is where the voice of God has led me. I know it is true.

How I live my faith

I think once you understand that you are the Child of God, you see and act differently then you would otherwise. There are certain things that I will not do because I know who I am and where I am going. Additionally, I know my purpose and how to accomplish it. I understand that I am meant to return back to my Heavenly Father. Understanding this seems to put things in perspective. All of a sudden the trivial things in life become more trivial. I want my life to be full of love. I want to have children and I want to be a good Dad. I want to love and cherish my wife. I want to serve faithfully in my church. I want to meaningfully serve others, locally and abroad. This is how I live and will live my faith.
