Hi I'm James

I'm an Optometrist, a Husband & Father, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a busy guy - married with five children. My wife and I both have four University degrees between us, but we love spending time with our family mostly. As a military eye doctor, I spent time in war-torn Kosovo, and I was a missionary for our church in California where I learned fluent Spanish. I now operate 5 optometry clinics in Calgary Alberta Canada.

Why I am a Mormon

In a phrase - Because I read the Book of Mormon and know through the Holy Spirit that it comes from God. When I was a teenager, my Dad was single, and we decided to read the Book of Mormon through out loud to each other. We would each read a page at a time, and as we read that book, a feeling unlike any other I had felt filled the room and we together developed a very strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. Since that time, I have studied, prayed, attended church meetings, and through these experiences, many other gospel truths have caused me to feel the same way - because of the consistency of these feelings of the Holy Spirit, I know that Jesus Christ lives and loves me, that Joseph Smith restored the ancient Church of Jesus Christ, and that the we have a living prophet today, Thomas S. Monson. The consistent manifestation of the Holy Spirit is what motivates me and keeps me active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints today.

How I live my faith

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ - and I try every day to be more like our Savior - our ultimate example and teacher. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the same organization that The Savior established when he was on the earth complete with Apostles. The Lord's church is a missionary church. I love the missionaries because they are such faithful young men and women and exemplify the Lord Jesus Christ in the way they live and go about their work. They have the Holy Spirit with them constantly and I love that influence in my home. They are often in my home and it is such a fantastic influence on my children, especially my teen-aged children.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

A common phrase repeated in most wedding ceremonies is "until death do we part." The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints teaches that husband and wife can be together through both their mortal journey and beyond after death as long as they are married by proper priesthood authority in a Holy Temple, and live good lives while in mortality. This priesthood power or authority has been extended to the prophets throughout all ages of time by a loving Heavenly Father to bind in heaven what has been bound on earth (see Matthew 16:19). My wife and I have five living children, and one who was stillborn when my wife was near the end of a pregnancy (8 1/2 months). Although this was a tragedy, and I never knew my stillborn daughter, my wife and I are promised, through our Temple marriage, that we will be with both our children who lived with us and experienced mortality (as long as they live good lives), and our stillborn daughter after this life is over. I love my family so much! I know that our family can be together forever after this life if we remain worthy of that holy priesthood blessing granted to my wife and I in the Temple of God. This truth gives me hope throughout all of life's ups and downs, draws me closer to my Heavenly Father, and increases my love for and faith in my Savior Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
