Hi I'm John

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons).

About Me

I love my wife and three children very much, and I'm so grateful they put up with me. My wife is a precious witness to me of God's love and mercy for me. I love the joy and innocense of children. I'm so grateful for the calm talks and teaching moments I get with our children (particularly where I am taught by them). I was also blessed to grow up as one in a loving family of twelve children and two very loving parents (but we certainly had our challenges, and I believe my parents would be the first to say that a big family isn't for everyone). From my youth, I have always been very involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have served in a large variety of callings in the Church. While some of those callings included positions of leadership, I have certainly learned that where we serve the Lord is not important, but how we serve Him really is. I have gained a great respect for those who serve faithfully in positions and assignments that to many would seem less signficant. I have been blessed by the power of good music in my life and with a love for singing (even though I need much improvement). In my younger years, I was part of various singing groups in school, church, barbershop, and other organizations (including the Mormon Youth Chorus and Symphony), but at this time in my life, I thrive on singing in our ward choir at church. I learned to play the accordion and I enjoy that quite a bit when I get the chance. I've also learned and played some on the piano, and even less on the organ. I enjoy religious, classical, some new age and jazz, and other music, but don't get much time to listen. I work on developing, testing, and releasing human resource functionality on an internet site. I enjoy learning about computers, software, the internet, and automating stuff through programming, to see how useful this stuff can be for people. I'm also detail-oriented, so I take time to do my work well.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because I believe it is the path that Christ has given to me, and to all in these last days, to come unto Him. Mormonism is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and encompasses all truth. I have at various, many times in my life felt specific impressions in my heart by the Holy Ghost of the truth of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, of the Book of Mormon, of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have specifically prayed to know the truth of these things and the Lord has truly answered and enlightened me personally. I feel illuminated as I listen to the testimonies of church members and leaders. I truly feel and believe that Jesus leads the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the Earth. This is His church to prepare us for His Second Coming to the Earth.

How I live my faith

I believe the most important way to live my faith is by daily striving to get to know my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through morning and evening prayer (as well as praying other times, and in my heart, whenever I have the chance), studying the scriptures personally (mostly in the mornings, but not near as faithfully as I would like to be), praying mornings and evenings with my family, and studying the scriptures with my family (in the evenings, much more faithfully than my personal studies). I want to learn the will of the Lord and how to fulfill it. My life is the Lord's and I want to live it unto Him. I believe that obedience and repentance are an important part of my faith. I have struggled with abuse, addiction, and many failings, but I also have hope and faith in the Lord, and I have experienced great love and mercy from Him, so I don't give up. Part of my faith is the importance of family, so I come home from work and participate in teaching our children and playing with them, helping them with their homework, helping resolve family problems and concerns, helping clean and improve the house, planning and leading our family gathering every Monday evening, etc. I live my faith by loving and serving others. I strive to be involved in my neighborhood and community. I have led a neighborhood watch, participated in community councils, attended town councils and city meetings, learned about political candidates and worked to get them elected.
