Hi I'm Evan Bastow

Thanks for visiting my profile.

About Me

I'm married to a wonderful woman and have two fantastic daughters that are now on their own living and working in other states. We love to get together on special occasions and holidays. We are so proud of the great things that they are doing, and look forward to the day when they will have families too. I work as a IT Systems/Support Administrator for a long-haul trucking company and enjoy working with and helping a diverse group of independent individuals. In a lot of ways I see them as unsung champions, getting products to each of us to enjoy, without much credit or thanks. In my spare time I like to garden and work in our yard and when time and energy permits to go traveling and enjoying the outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

For many years, I just took for granted that our Church was true. After high school, I was faced with the challenge to go on mission for the Church, or to stay home and continue working and seeking after other pursuits. My bishop called me into his office and extended to me a challenge to personally pray and find out what my Heavenly Father wanted me to do. At first I didn’t want to do it. I already in my heart knew what He desired. But I finally did it and an answer came. Soon I was preparing to serve a two-year mission for the Church in England. To prepare as a missionary, I was sent to our Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City to learn at the Mission Home. During this training, we had the opportunity to watch a movie about Joseph Smith's desire to learn what church was right. It depicted him going to a grove of trees to pray for guidance. During this prayer, God, the Father, and his Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him and let him know that currently, at that time, no church on the earth contained the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that He had established when He was on the earth. They explained that there had been a falling away from His Church, and that a restoration was required. Joseph was told that he would be a tool in God's hands to make this possible. As I watched the movie, I came to realize that I needed to know for myself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was this restored church. That night, I knelt by my bunk and prayed fervently to know for myself that the events in the movie, and what I had been taught all my life, were true and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ had been restore through Joseph Smith. Warm peaceful feelings engulfed my heart, and my mind was put at ease that indeed these things were true. From that day forward, I have continued to study and learn and put to the test the teachings of the Church. I know that these things are true and you can know for yourself that they are too.

How I live my faith

I feel that it is our duty to serve others. I have tried to always be involved in making our area a better place to live. I've served in the chamber of commerce, in civic clubs and as a member of the city council. If we all do our part, together great things can be achieved. I also work to make our local church Ward better too by doing my part. I've helped as a leader with young single adults and currently I serve in our priesthood group leadership. We are truly blessed.
