Hi I'm Al

I am a husband and father, small town Texan, cancer survivor and pediatric dentist. I love football and fireworks. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in northern Utah in a family of eight. At the age of 12 I survived a battle with cancer that changed my life. I later served a mission for the LDS church in Paris, France for two years. Upon my return I married the woman of my dreams, Lisa, who is the love of my life still today. She endured many years of my employment as a pyrotechnician and student, ten to be exact. Along the way we have had four children and adopted two, lived across this great nation and lived the adventure of a life time. We now live in a small town Texas where I am the local Pediatric Dentist and my wife is a Dance Studio Owner and the business brain of my practice. We currently are adopting a seventh child and trying to figure out how our life could be any crazier. I love Nebraska football, fishing and fireworks and spending time with my family and wife. I am not perfect but trying to be all that I can be. The Lords has blessed us greatly.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon first and foremost because I have a deep conviction that Jesus Christ is my Savior. Through his example and sacrifice I can better my life and the life of others and make my life full or happiness, even in the midst of the greatest sorrows. It is through the binding promises and teachings found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that I draw closer to God and his ways and bring the promises of greatest happiness into my life. I am also a Mormon because I have the deep conviction that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I have read this book numerous times and know it contains the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also know that those who read this book can ask in faith to God to show them the same answer I have, that it is true. I also have a deep conviction for Joseph Smith who helped restore the true church of Christ and helped God bring to us the Book of Mormon. I have had feelings from God that have confirmed this without any doubt in my mind. I know that God has not left us alone to try and navigate life on our own. I believe that God sends prophets to guide his people. He did it in times of old and continues today. I know that God has called a man to serve as his prophet in our current times. From Joseph Smith to our current prophet Thomas Monson I have no doubt that God leads his church through a prophet and apostles. I have had a deep and lasting witness to this truth. Lastly I am a Mormon because of the life it teaches me to live and the promises of being with my family forever, not just in this life, that come through living God's commandments. It is only in the church that these promised can hold true. The power to bind families together forever is found here and brings great happiness to my life. I am a Mormon after living a lifetime of experiences that have undeniably told me that I am in the right place. God has told me and has great things in store for me if I live the life that he wants me to live.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a lot of ways. Here are a few. Christ loved the little children and recommended we be more like them. For this reason I have surrounded myself in life via my job and home life with kids. They are great examples to me and I am so blessed to spend my days seeing the world through their eyes. Either at work where I see up to a hundred children a day or at home with my seven kids my life is such a happier place being surrounded with children. I see why Christ loved having children around him. Dedicating my life to helping children has brought a true sense of purpose to my life. I am a pediatric dentist I do not know much about accounting but God has said he can make weak things become strong. In my local church I serve as the clerk and accountant for my congregation. He helps me and teaches me to learn something new. All service in our church is done without compensation and giving of my time to God and watching him help me is a true blessing. I also live my faith by allowing what my religion teaches me be part of every day of my life. It teaches me to be a hard worker. It teaches me to be honest. It teaches me that all of God's children are equal and should all be treated the same. It teaches me to always be learning. It teaches me to try and make a difference in people's lives. It teaches me to share what God has given to me. It teaches me that you have to strive to life a good life if you wan to have happiness. I live my faith by trying to do the same thing that all of us are trying to achieve, happiness. Some choose popular methods for short term fulfillment or choose the easy road because of the promise of excitement or reward. Others choose the road that seems most logical or accepted. However I live my faith by trying to pick the way God wants and knowing he wants me to be truly happy. For that reason I smile a lot each day because I know God's plan for me.
